SOME OF BARBARA’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS REPRESENTING HER DISTRICT IN THE ASSEMBLY 1993-1998

CALIFORNIA WELFARE REFORM:
Barbara was part of the Assembly Leadership Team that passed Californias Landmark Welfare Reform. This historical legislation has been instrumental in moving people from dependence on government to independence and self sufficiency.

MEGAN’S LAW:
Requires public notification when a sex offender moves into your neighborhood. Victim’s groups report this law has saved multitudes of women and children from sexual abuse.

CALIFORNIA PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS GENERATOR:
5% reduction in bank and corporation taxes/making our business tax rate lower than any neighboring state. Incentivised businesses to keep jobs in California by lowering the tax rate below surrounding states. Also lowered the Alternative Minimum Tax (ATM)

TAX CUT FOR CALIFORNIA FAMILIES:
Increased the dependent tax deduction saving families millions of dollars.

CAPITAL GAINS TAX CUT:
Cut California homeowners capital gains tax a whopping 50%

SEX OFFENDERS/CHILD DAY CARE PROHIBITION:
Before this bill became law sex offender’s were working in day care.

DOUBLED ALLOWABLE CHARITABLE DEDUCTIONS FOR BUSINESSES:
Liberals want government to give your money to the needed. This legislation allowed businesses to deduct more of their own giving choices instead of paying more tax.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE/PROBABLE CAUSE ARREST:
Landmark legislation that allowed police to arrest for probable cause in domestic violence cases. Law enforcement reports this has been their best intervention tool in ending the cycle of domestic violence.

HMO GAG CLAUSE:
Ended the practice of HMO’s preventing your doctor from discussing all of the treatment options with you. This legislation saved lives.

MICHELLE MONTOYA LAW:
Requires background checks for every person doing business on a school campus after a 17 year old girl was murdered on campus, by a violent felon school employee, days prior to her graduation.

VICTIM’S GET COMPENSATION BEFORE CONVICTS RECEIVE A DIME:
Notorious prisoner’s used to get royalties from their biographies, images, etc. This legislation provides all monies goes to compensate victims families first.

TAXPAYER FIREWALL FOR SACRAMENTO BALLPARK AUTHORITY:
This voters rights issue prevented the building of a sports stadium in Sacramento with public money to be approved by the voters.
